In December 2011, Chilly Gonzales moved his piano into Paris Studio Pigalle.

While Chilly was known for years as a pianist, the path that led to a music career began when he was just a young boy.

Here he was, an 11-year-old brown-skinned boy with a beautiful gift, a gift that was quickly being used to better his own life, but which, in the end, only served to better the lives of others around him.

He had a friend who went by the name of Sunny.

There was a ballroom in the Hotel Saint-Germain-des-Prés, a legendary jazz club in Paris. One day, Chilly and Sunny went there with some other kids.

They were all chatting, when they heard a popular recording by John Coltrane.

Young Chilly was fascinated by the sound of the man playing the piano.

The sound was so long, so beautiful, and so strong.

He was completely mesmerized.

In particular, he noticed something strange: the strings!

Chilly thought that the strings sounded like they were made from gold.

He asked the music director of the club if he could play a song on the piano.

So, with a smile on his face and eager to please, the young Chilly played a song called “A Love Supreme.”

He was soon rewarded with a standing ovation, along with a few coins that he took for the stage.

When he returned home, he played the song from memory while resting on his bed.
