Dark Scandals UPD

The first of DeWine's two dark money groups was formed in 2013, after the DeWine administration was forced to pay $600,000 to settle a lawsuit brought by the Democratic Party of Mahoning County that challenged the law that prevented local parties from raising and spending unlimited amounts of money.

Generation Now accepted $500,000 in dark money from former party boss Mike Gibbons' political action committee, the Ohio First PAC, that was then transferred to contributors in secret bank accounts that were controlled by the PAC. The money was funneled to Generation Now, a 501(c)(4) formed by DeWine's political aide, Brian McGuire, and his wife, and two political consultants working for him. The money was then used to back DeWine and other Republican candidates for the House of Representatives in 2008, 2010 and 2012.

The history of the Republic is one of great presidents who were not perfect, but who were honest and transparent. The public had a right to know about scandals, and the public appreciated presidents who were honest. The Trump administration is beginning to remind me of Richard Nixon.

In the meantime, we’ve learned from the Watergate scandal that the cover up is often worse than the crime. A number of Americans have been convicted of planning to murder the president, and yet we have no idea who ordered the killing or whether it was ever carried out.
