Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines! (Well, almost.) A new entertainment complex is under construction along Route 1 South in Edison, NJ, next to Topgolf. It is set to open this fall. And they make the bold claim that it will include the largest indoor go-kart track in the world.
Supercharged Entertainment already operates a similar 80,000 square foot facility in Wrentham, Massachusetts. On social media, the company touts their new multi-level NJ go-kart track will be "28% bigger" with 10 elevation changes and enough room for 4-wide racing.
Get ready to put your racing skills to the ultimate test. \n28% larger than our Wrentham, MA location, this track has 10 elevation changes and enough room to fit 4 karts side by side. #WORLDSLARGEST ?
Contrary to popular belief, high temperatures do not crack iron brake discs. Steep temperature gradients (uneven temperature distribution throughout the disc) destroy them, as the hotter areas of the disc try to expand more than the cooler areas, creating large internal mechanical stresses. If you slowly and evenly bring a properly designed iron racing disc to 1300°F, you can expect it to run all day at the track without much drama. Good ductile iron racing discs are extremely stable at that temperature and beyond.
Convection refers to the transfer of heat as fluid (air in this case), as it flows over and through the disc. Some convection takes place as air flows over the friction faces. On an optimized ventilated disc design, even more convection cooling occurs as the air flows through the internal passages. The vanes suck the heat out of the back side of the friction faces, have a very large surface area in contact with the air, and act as a fan pumping air across those surfaces. As air passes across the vanes, it absorbs heat and evacuates it towards the outer edge of the disc. Brake ducts lower disc temperatures by forcing more air through the internal disc vanes. That forced air is coupled with the centrifugal force generated by the spinning directional cooling vanes, drawing additional heat from the disc. The picture below shows an AP Racing J Hook Competition Disc with a high number of directional internal vanes. As a disc spins, those vanes act like a pump or fan, pushing hot air out and drawing cool air in. This is one of the primary reasons why a proper directional racing disc is far more effective and efficient than an OEM-style disc, which in many cases does not even have directional vanes.
To prevent cracks, we want to keep the temperature across the entire disc as even as possible. If it is perfectly even, all areas expand the same amount and there are no thermally induced stresses no matter what the temperature may be. When we have hotter and colder areas, the hotter areas try to expand more, while the colder areas try to hold them back, creating stress. The larger the temperature variation, the larger the internal stresses, and the higher the propensity for cracks.
A critical point still remains with this type of setup, however: It will only lower the brake temperature if the duct allows more airflow through the disc vanes vs. the center of the disc being open without a plate and duct. A proper racing disc with a high vane count makes a fairly good air pump on its own and will move a substantial amount of air unassisted. If the duct has a good high-pressure entrance at the front of the car, the track speeds are high, and the duct is not flattened to half of its normal cross-section where it clears the tire, then it can be effective at increasing the airflow through the disc. Otherwise, the disc/plate assembly could be restrictive, reducing airflow through the vanes and raising the disc temperature.
This time the game appears to be aiming for 30fps and frequently fails to hit it. We recorded some footage and went back through it later to study it in more detail, and on some tracks in particular we were getting around 23-24 fps at times, which would be fine for something like an RPG but for a fast-paced karting game is a massive handicap. Everything feels extremely sluggish, and on the higher speed settings it can get really tricky to keep up with the action as a result.
This all makes for a game that, despite improvements to its roster, karts, and voice acting, still ends up being a worse experience than its predecessor. This would be bewildering were it not for the fact that we know exactly why this happened. One word: Garfield.
On paper, Nickelodeon Kart Racers 3 does so much right, with a bigger roster of racers, more kart customisation, and the oft-requested addition of voice acting, which does add to the atmosphere considerably. But on the track it's hugely disappointing, with a severely reduced frame rate compared to its predecessor, making everything feel more sluggish as a result.
After growing up with Mario Kart and Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing there has never been any other type of kart racer that doesn't look like crap. I just don't see any reason why anyone would play this
@benmalsky198 IT WAS A JOKE. No one actually hates the fact Garfield is in the game, he's had bad kart racers before so the reviewer was cracking jokes about it.I'm so glad that you love the game and are having a fun experience with it, but you can't deny that other people might not like those small issues that you don't care about. Hence, it getting the score it did, hopefully they patch the game!(Also, I would avoid posting multiple times in a row buddy boy)
@FroZtedFlake Sorry about that. Yeah, I am sure they absolutely will patch the game to address any issues it has. Otherwise, this is a really good game for arcade style racing game fans and Nickelodeon fans.
@benmalsky198 I think you're taking some of this a bit too seriously, mate. The Garfield thing was just a joke: as someone's already explained, there are already awful Garfield karting games so it was just an attempt at humour by referencing them. The JoJo Siwa thing was just a bit of fun too. The important things are the performance, the shortcuts and the items, all of which ruined the experience quite a bit for me. If you disagree and you're enjoying it then I'm really happy for you, but leaving me five comments (and counting, I'd imagine) telling me why you don't get the review is a bit unfair considering there are over 1000 words there in which I explain the score.

(November 1, 2022) Smoky Mountain Speedway will start a new chapter for its 59th season of racing in 2023. The track will be converted to a 3/8-mile speedway when the season tips off in March. Smoky Mountain Speedway owner Roger Sellers decided to shorten the track, in an effort to provide better racing and bring in more divisions for the upcoming seasons. The current configuration of just over 4/10-mile will be changed to a 3/8-mile configuration with progressive banking. Aside from the progressive banking, the size and layout will be similar to Magnolia Motor Speedway in Mississippi.
Smith wasted no time in jumping to the lead as the green flag waved over the field. Rusty Ballenger and Matt Henderson battled for second. Following a quick caution at the end of lap 1, the battle for second resumed between Ballenger and Henderson. As Trevor Sise held the fourth spot, Zach Sise and Brandon Miller spent a number of laps racing for fifth. Henderson grabbed second from Ballenger just before another caution waved on lap 6. Henderson had no luck in challenging Smith once the race resumed.
Along the left wall of the chasm between the Lava Lake and the Snowy Depths is a crack in the wall. This crack leads to a small racetrack area where you'll find a small racing cart, which automatically re-orients itself according to mouse movement while the player is holding a wand.
Delays caused by the global coronavirus pandemic this year meant some drivers were old enough to move up to more powerful karts and contest full seasons in those rather than switching machinery halfway through 2020, while others turned 15 in time to even go into Formula 4 before the bustle of end-of-year karting fixtures.
He was one of the four pacesetters in qualifying, split into groups for a 74-kart entry, and was second-best rookie in the heats. While he finished one heat down in 15th, he also won one against defending two-time champion Lorenzo Travisanutto, but was eventually classified 35th after his painful final crash.
While much of the media wrote that Nico Rosberg was making a first foray into team management when he announced in October he was entering Extreme E, his pre-existing karting team had been busy winning races with British protege Taylor Barnard. In 2019 he announced himself immediately in senior karting by winning the WSK Champions Cup, and won it again at the start of 2020 before heading to the USA for two rounds of its winter series, coming 22nd in the X30 Senior class. 2b1af7f3a8
